Enjoyment Factor of Lifting.

For those of you that follow a strictly Heavy Duty method of training. or even your own version of HIT for that matter

Do you guys enjoy going to the gym? is it a fun time for you? i seemed to dread going when i did HD on something like leg day b/c of how bizerk i might have went last time and i have to try and beat that this time. It was not an enjoyable way for me to train.

I have been trying somewhat of escalating density routine for some body parts and i have to say that for the enjoyment factor its my favorite method. i feel like i′m working hard but not killing myself and the PUMPS are absolutley unreal. i know the pump isn′t the most important thing but i really enjoy the feeling. simiar methods to something like a vince gironda routine. i seem to be getting good results from this at the moment too. i′m using it for shoulders, triceps and legs. i feel great great after a workout. like i′m going to burst.

just wondering what your thoughts are on the enjoyment factor and how it plays into long term gains. I think if you don′t enjoy what your doing your not gonna stick with it or your not gonna put forthe your best effort.

I also could not stand only going to the gym once every 10 days and then only doing a quick workout. For those of you who do Heavy Duty, how do you feel about lifting so little as far as the "enjoyment" factor is concerned.

Funny, I was thinking about making a thread, like this one, the other night after my Chest, Delts, Triceps, Biceps, Forearms and abs workout. I absolutely love weight training with maximum intensity!! It seems like sometimes my body just cannot generate the level of intensity that I crave to achieve; meaning that eventhough I am pushing myself to my limits and going a lot further than most people could go, I still aspire to transcend my body to the next level of intensity. I have been lifting for 14 years, so I am sure that my pain tolerance is off the charts, which can account for the fact that my body and mind has adjusted to the extremem pain, so I am unable to feel it like a beginner would feel it. To me performing all out hit training is one of the truest and most exhilerating experiences that you can be blessed with in life; akin to ascending my mental and physical being into the realm of a sacred existence that you can only enter if you have passed the ultimate test that you have set for yourself. It is a very prideful and gratifying feeling. I am going to do it until the day I die!

Traps I agree with you- sort of. I must admit I do sometimes dread my workouts knowing that I have to always better my previous performances. It is a lot of pressure and sometimes the disappointment of not meeting a targeted number of reps or amount of weight is really depressing. Especially when you know you may not do that particular workout again for another week or ten days or whatever.

Hey Traps, good question.

1. I think feeling of enjoyment in workout is very important and i think it boosts your training more than any other "technique".When you feel that you are achieving something sudendly your self-confidence is boosted too.

2.When I was training HD it was nightmarish sometimes: feeling of guilt that i didnt go to "true" failure, not meeting wanted reps, or thinking that im the only who is right in the gym(and some kind of super trainer) despite the allaround evidence. There was also high presure from very long layoffs knowing that when i start the lift if I mess it up, there would be no chance to correct it for 2 weeks.(I guess im repeating what Adman said).
