PROGRESS??

Guys.im currently training twice weekly,6/7 exercises a session.tommorow its leg press, naut p/overs,puldowns,chest cross, dip. i can get through this(barely!) but it shuts me down for two days after.im nearly 48,and dont like walking around like a zombie!trying to recover.im thinking about a split, BUT im not happy about it.MM was a hero of mine, but so was AJ.i have to agree with AJ " the body is a whole and should be trained as such"has anyone gotten good (as in 10/15lbs of lean mass in a year) on the split ,a la mentzer? thanks guys.

Coomo,
In my opinion your doing way too much.I gained 10-12 lbs with no visable fat in 10 weeks of just doing a set of squats every 5-7 days. And I′ve been training for almost 18 years.I′m still learning, but I′m no beginner. So those weren′t beginner gains.I find the biggest problem is that most of us want too much variety in our workouts.I think if you do either a leg press or squat or deadlift, and 1 pushing and 1 pulling movement 3 total exercises, that′s really all anyone needs.Arthur himself said that the Squat/Chin/Dip is all anyone needs to reach their potential.

HD27 thats amazing results.I cant squat as it elavates my hr to high, and after three heart procedures my cardiologist wants me to keep it around 150 ish,so i leg press instead.so i could do leg press ,nautilus pullovers, and dips.it just seems so little!as much as my logical mind tells me it its all i need ,my mind keps nagging to want more.!! think im gonna give this a try for a month though, every 3/4 days, thanks for the input.

coomo,

One set of deadlifts IS a full body workout, as well as squats. Also when I get a really good negative chin workout my pectorals are really sore, also my triceps get swollen from it, and this is classically thought of as a back and biceps workout! The fact that you are down for 2 days shows your are overtrained.

I think the bottom line is that you need to rethink your training philosophy. You will never reach anything close to your potential on your current program. Two sets is plenty when taken to failure.

Coomo,
It is tough at first when you′re used to doing more exercises.I think that′s why volume guys can′t understand HIT.Instead of doing all 3 in one workout and exhausting yourself.Perhaps consider splitting it up even simpler. For example.WO1-Leg press WO2-Pullovers/Dips.Just my opinion, see what suits you better!.As Mike used to tell me during consultations…Don′t worry about the number of exercises,it′s not about how much you can tolerate,it about doing what is needed and no more!.Precise is best!.I know of a superslow trainer who himself does Leg press and Negative chins once per week, and says that it′s the most productive routine he′s done even after nearly 30 years of training!.
