Mike Mentzer′s SMOKING habbits |

I recently purchased Mentzer′s HIT exercise DVD with the behind the scenes footage, which shows Mike smoking one CIGARETTE after the other (well atleast two in total). I was just wondering that if he had smoked during his bodybuilding years ? surely it would have put him at a disadvantage. Also surely wouldnt smoking have been one of the factors that contributed to the guys death ???? But I think more importantly, yeah Mike Mentzers ideology revolusionized bodybuilding but its not exactly good for the sport seeing him smoking is it ? just like ARNOLD at the end of pumping iron smoking (what many people believe is a joint).

Of course smoking is bad. It′s ain′t going to help you out. Back then, smoking was cool. The good guy would beat the crap out of the bad guy and then light one up. It wasn′t uncommon to see that back in the day. I don′t really care if Arnold or Mentzer smoked. They are still icons. It′s not good for them to be smoking but it won′t hurt the sport itself if they do. Smoking is still done by tons of people. Smoking probably did make it a little harder for them in the gym, it sure as hell didn′t help them build muscle.

Could have contributed to his bad health for sure, but Mike died as a result of a genetic heart defect.

Probably not. Joanne Sharkey was angry that this footage was released to the public. Thing is it is rare footage of Mike, so fans would like to see it, even if it was Mike chain smoking.
Thing is though, whatever seeming faults in Mikes behaviour that does nothing to take away from the guys integrity and also his amazing HD system of training.

Maybe Mike knew he was not gonna live long and just said F*⁢ and smoked cause he wanted to.
