Front Squats |
I′m far from a beginner but recently permanently abandoned back squats in favor of FRONT SQUATS so I′m still at a learning stage (225lbs) of this wonderful exercise.
If the bar was as easy to hold (at least for beginners) in Front Squats as in back squats they′re respective reputations would IMO easily be reversed. The increased leg (front & back), trap, delt, & ab gains, makes the Front Squat probably THE best exercise known.
The decreased back problems makes me wonder why those in the know even bother w/ the back squat. I don′t think in the Front Squat the majority of people need more than 3 plates for 3 sets of 5-10 reps, and no one needs more 4 plates since very few under 250lbs can F/S 405lbs for more than a triple.

The ONLY exercise I would place above the F/S is the total body w/out known as the DEADLIFT. I don′t think its fair to compare any form of the squat to the DEADLIFT since the F/S almost totally eliminates any upper body work.

Good point. Whether someone should back squat instead of front squat is & always will be debateable I suppose. Much like alot of things in life the easier isn′t necessarily just as or more effective. Breathing seems to be easier in the front squat.

Arthur Jones claimded to have solved all of the problems of the free-weight squat with his Nautilus Duo Squat Machine. Never tried it though.
